IMPORTANCE OF THESE CREATURES
These creatures may look worthless and look like a burden to be eliminated but they actually play a vital role in our ecosystem and without them we wont be able to survive in this world. All these creatures have their own unique roles that benefits us in someway.
Lets start from the first animal in our list, the black shrew. Black shrews are really important to keep the population of insects in check as it is a veracious predator. Black shrew also help with the economy as a lot of people will come to Malaysia to look for this elusive mammal. The Sudan pangolin are also the same as this creature
Next is the Malayan tapir. Malayan Tapir plays a huge role in maintaining the biodiversity of tropical ecosystems. They are known as the “umbrella species” that indirectly protects other species such as monkeys, deer, wild cats and many other variety of reptiles and plants. Without Malayan Tapirs, the life cycle in the rainforest will lose its balance and many species will decrease as a result. Tapirs consumes a wide variety of seasonal fruits and thus they are also the seed dispensers. When the fruits are consumed, the seeds are defecated (pooped) in different places as Tapirs wander around, thus helping to disperse the seeds throughout the habitat. Sumatran rhino ( Third animal) and Bornean pygmy elephant ( 8th species on our list) also play similar roles with it.
Fourth is the Malayan tiger which contributes to the ecosystem by keeping the number of wild boars under control. As an apex predator, Malayan tigers keep populations of prey species in check, which in turn maintains the balance in the ecosystem. This includes the rare Indochinese leopard and the large spotted civet.
